In this case he takes the high five and honestly THAT'S what gets him to pause because.... Any emotion/thoughtshare with him is x2 and let's be honest getting Goose's level of excitement when he's already so loud is enough to shock him out of his senses.
Or it would if it didn't feel right and good and he stands dazed for a solid few moments before his eyes widen and he's really quick to back off several feet in the opposite direction. ]
[If nothing else, this reveals that as loud as Goose's emotions and thoughts can be? They could be worse, and he actively works to keep them (relatively) lowkey around Phoenix. It's not skin off his nose, he's got surprising control over his emotions despite his ferocity.
